Telecommunications

Jiménez Cruz Peña has gained its reputation for its handling of all areas of the telecommunications sector, namely: corporate and regulatory aspects, financing, negotiations of interconnection contracts, and representations before the Dominican Telecommunications Institute.

We represent a number of telecommunications service providers, including the largest telephone company in the Dominican Republic. We also represent radio stations, television channels, and cable companies.

With respect to corporate matters, some examples of the work Jiménez Cruz Peña has done include:

  • The acquisition by Trilogy International Partners of the operations of All America Cables & Radio – República Dominicana, Inc. (Centennial Dominicana), including representation vis-à-vis the Dominican Telecommunications Institute and Dominican tax authorities to obtain the necessary authorizations
  • Representation of majority and minority investors in telecom companies

Jiménez Cruz Peña has participated significantly in the handling of controversies before the government’s regulatory agency. After the approval of the “Regulation for the Resolution of Disputes between Users and Providers” by the Dominican Telecommunications Institute, we were the first law firm to defend the interests of providers against actions brought by users.

We have also represented clients in court and administrative proceedings regarding the use of the broadcast bandwidth and the granting of licenses.

Multiple attorneys at Jiménez Cruz Peña have previously worked as in-house legal advisors to telecommunications companies. This type of experience has served as an asset to the firm in researching and preparing many opinions at the request of the government’s regulatory agency in diverse areas of the industry, which, in turn, has greatly enhanced our knowledge of all aspects of the sector.
